Self-acclaimed “Champions of Human Rights” in Congress dared to speak out

The ALLIANCE FOR NATIONALISM AND DEMOCRACY (ANAD) Partylist challenged members of the House of Representatives under Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), and Kabataan to speak out and denounce the relentless attacks and killings perpetrated by the Maoist terrorists NPA against innocent civilians and some policemen in the different parts of the country.

“What the violent NPAs are doing is a complete contrast to the efforts of their masters in the Maoist terrorist CPP seeking to revive the peace talks with government,” said ANAD Rep. Jun Alcover as he scored these pseudo-partylist groups of being damningly silent amidst the barbarism and wanton disregard  for human life displayed by the terrorist NPAs.

“Where are they now when the shout loudly in the streets of being protectors of people’s rights? Now is the time for them to speak out and call on their comrades in the terrorist group  –  – NPA to shun violence and uphold CARHIHL as their share in the confidence building steps they must do in the run-up towards the peace talks on Feb. 15,” Rep. Alcover pointed out.

Rep. Alcover was referring to the recent terrorist NPA attacs on a Bantay Kalikasan/anti-logging checkpoint in Barangay Pulang Lupa, Trento, Agusan del Sur killing 2 civilians, Fritz Mark Dimzon, 19 years old, wounding PO1 Mario Sevillano, and the abduction of PO3 George Cabatin; and the treacherous murders of PO3 Diosdado Corilla in Atimonan, Quezon. “

“We strongly condemn this sheer act of treachery against well-meaning and innocent civilians and law enforcement personnel whose only violation was to confront and stop the NPA’s rampant illegal logging activities in Agusan del Sur,” said Rep. Alcover .

“While they are very much noisy when issues against government are raised, they are now weirdly silent on the NPA’s relentless attacks against innocent civilians and even in the killing their former comrades,” Rep. Alcover pointed out.

“ANAD cannot just be on the sidelines as though we’re audience to a very onerous act against humanity. It is high time for government to speak out on this particular concern so that the Filipinos could verily discern the direction and lines that the GRP panel is taking as it goes back to the negotiating table on Feb. 15, in Oslo, Norway,” ANAD Rep. Alcover said.
